Presidential Candidate's Stance on the Environment
As most of you already know, 2008 is a presidential election
year. We are posting the following information to provide you
with a summary of each candidate’s overall stance on the
environmental issues that are important to us all. We recognize
that which candidate you select to support is a personal choice;
however, we want to equip you with the knowledge to make an
informed decision. Thus, we will maintain bi-partisan updates on
these issues as they progress throughout the campaigns, along
with other key newsworthy updates in the environmental arena.
John
McCain
- Believes our economic prospects are linked to
sustainable use of natural resources.
- Proposes to reduce carbon emissions by harnessing market
forces to expedite increases in nuclear energy production
and other advanced technologies that will contribute towards
reducing US dependence on foreign oil.
- Believes in protecting natural resources, especially our
national parks, for future generations.
Barack
Obama
- Proposes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% from
1990 levels by 2050 through a cap-and-trade system.
- Would propose investing $150 billion for environmental
technologies including biofuels, plug-in hybrids, and
renewable energy.
- Backs a doubling of automobile fuel economy standards
within 19 years with retooled tax credits and loan
guarantees for domestic manufacturers.
