At Apollo Group, we are committed to reducing the amount of waste we produce. Recycling office products is one step we can take to ensure our commitment remains strong.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, roughly 41 percent of solid waste is paper. In an office, paper – including newspapers, magazines, packages, boxboard, paper bags and all other grades of paper – can account for 80 percent of the solid waste.
Beginning September 2007, employees working at the Hohokam Towers will be provided with recycle bins at each work station to help us reduce the unnecessary waste that builds up during day-to-day activities. This is in addition to our partnership with the Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ACBVI), which provides us with a customized recycling program and pick-up service twice a month. ACBVI is a local non-profit United Way Agency offering rehabilitative and recreational services to adults who are blind and visually impaired. By choosing ACBVI as our recycling company, we are not only helping the environment, but we are also assisting an organization that positively impacts our community.
For more information on the Apollo Group Office Recycling Program, please contact Cisco Villegas. Desktop recycle bins may be purchased through our national office supplies partner, OfficeMax®.
Each of us uses an average of 10,000 sheets of paper each year. Cutting back here and there adds up to less waste and less pollution.
Set a good example for your co-workers and you might just get them to be more conscientious about their consumption habits. Below, you’ll find simple strategies to improve printing and copying efficiency to reduce the amount of paper waste produced:
